Sleeping giant
Grot wordt één seizoen gehuurd van sleeping giant Leeds United, de club die in het verleden nog Europacup-finalist was maar inmiddels in Engeland op het tweede niveau uitkomt. Bij die club slaagde Grot er in het afgelopen seizoen niet in om zich in het basiselftal te spelen: hij scoorde één keer in negentien duels.
Jeugdinterlands
De 20-jarige vleugelaanvaller, die ook als spits kan worden ingezet, speelde in de jaargang 2016/2017 een sterk seizoen bij NEC. Het zou Grot een plek opleveren bij diverse nationale jeugdelftallen: hij heeft 20 jeugdinterlands op de teller staan.

Linkspoot
VVV maakte daarnaast bekend dat het Tino Susic transfervrij aan de selectie heeft toegevoegd. De linkspoot uit Bosnië-Herzegovina komt het beste tot zijn recht als aanvallende middenvelder. De 26-jarige speler speelde tot dusver acht wedstrijden voor zijn nationale ploeg.
Turbulent
Het afgelopen seizoen verliep turbulent voor Susic: Racing Genk verhuurde hem in de eerste seizoenshelft aan Maccabi Tel-Aviv, dat hem vervolgens in januari weer terugstuurde naar België. Genk deed hem daarop van de hand, waarna Royal Antwerp FC de volgende bestemming van Susic bleek. Het leverde Susic in totaal een handvol wedstrijden met speeltijd op.
